Johannesburg: Bafana Bafana has officially qualified for the 2026 F©d©ration Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup following a significant 3-0 win against Rwanda on Tuesday night. This marks the national team’s first qualification for the World Cup since 2002.
According to South African Government News Agency, the Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, extended his congratulations to the team. He stated, “You did not just win a football match, you made a powerful statement about what is possible when South Africans believe, unite and fight together.” The Minister praised the team’s performance, highlighting their heart, discipline, and determination, which he believes are crucial attributes that contributed to their success.
McKenzie expressed his admiration for coach Hugo Broos, the technical staff, and the players, acknowledging their hard work and dedication. He remarked, “We salute you. You have given our country hope again. You have reminded us that South African football belongs on the world stage and that we are capable of greatness.” He urged the team to continue their efforts, emphasizing that qualifying for the World Cup is just the beginning of their journey.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of investing in local talent, noting that most of the players are from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and are based in South Africa.
