Cold Front Brings Disruptive Weather to South African Regions

Cape town: Cold conditions are expected to persist in the Western and Northern Cape regions on Friday, as the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warns of a continuing drop in temperatures. Daytime temperatures are anticipated to remain below 10°C in certain areas, particularly over the Central Karoo District in the Western Cape and the southern parts of the Namakwa District in the Northern Cape.

According to South African Government News Agency, the cold spell is attributed to a cut-off low-pressure system exiting the country. The adverse weather conditions are likely to affect agriculture adversely, posing a threat to vulnerable livestock and crops, and are expected to disrupt outdoor activities. There's also an increased risk of hypothermia for those exposed to the cold.

In addition to the cold temperatures, a Yellow Level 2 warning has been issued for disruptive snowfall in the north-eastern high-lying areas of the Eastern Cape. This snowfall may lead to icy roads and traffic disruptions, posing challenges for commuters and travelers.

The Weather Service has also issued a Yellow Level 4 warning for wind and waves, affecting sea navigation between Plettenberg Bay and East London. These conditions could lead to difficulties for small vessels, potentially causing them to take on water.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the weather outlook suggests partly cloudy and cold conditions, with isolated showers expected along the east and south-west coasts of the country.
