Gauteng: Gauteng police have recovered 776 unlicensed firearms and 2030 rounds of ammunition between 1 July and 30 September 2025. During this three-month period, law enforcement officials have made significant arrests related to illegal firearms and ammunition.
According to South African Government News Agency, 247 suspects were arrested for illegal possession of firearms, and 224 individuals were apprehended for illegal possession of ammunition. The firearms recovered include automatic rifles, complete firearms, revolvers/pistols, rifles, and shotguns, with some having their serial numbers filed off.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) stated that these achievements underscore the effectiveness of proactive policing efforts and collaboration with other law enforcement agencies, private security companies, and government departments. The police emphasized their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of communities through ongoing efforts to combat crime and prevent the proliferation of illegal firearms.
