Media Invitation: SAPS to launch Royal Reserve Policing concept

DURBAN – In a bid to strengthen capacity to address criminality in rural areas, especially traditionally-led communities, the Minister of Police, General Bheki Cele together with His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini will on Thursday, 03 December 2020 launch the Royal Reserve Policing concept in Kwa-Nongoma, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
This concept will see the introduction of police reservists in traditionally-led communities.
The concept spearheaded by the South African Police Services (SAPS) will be the first of its kind to be implemented in KZN and later be rolled out in other communities led by Traditional Leaders.
This policing approach forms part of the Rural Safety Strategy and the Traditional Policing Strategy.
Both these strategies seek to present a model for safety planning through an integration of resources both from stakeholders in rural Communities, SAPS, and community safety structures.
100 Royal Reservists who have already undergone the prescribed training at a SAPS Academy will be paraded before Zulu Kingdom which will be officiated by His Majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini. The cohort will immediately commence with their policing functions on a voluntary basis.
