Rössing Uranium Namibia has confirmed the death of an employee of one of its contractor’s sub-contractors working at the mine’s solar plant construction site on Wednesday.
A media statement issued by the company’s communications department Wednesday night stated that operations at the solar plant construction site have been suspended until further notice.
All operations for the afternoon and night shift at the mine were also halted for the rest of Wednesday and resumed on Thursday.
The details of the deceased could not be released as the next of kin had not yet been informed.
A safety pause has further been arranged for all shifts, addressed by a senior leadership team, before operations resumed on Thursday.
The spokesperson of the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba, confirmed the incident, saying a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
