Cape town: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning about severe storms expected to impact the extreme north-east of the Northern Cape, the North West, and the Free State on Wednesday. This announcement comes amid concerns over potential minor impacts due to an upper air system, known as a cut-off low, which is creating conditions conducive to severe storm development.
According to South African Government News Agency, the severe weather conditions could result in localised damage to infrastructure and informal settlements. There is also a risk of localised flooding on susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, with the possibility of trees blocking minor roads.
Looking ahead to Thursday and Friday, the weather is expected to be partly cloudy and warm, though cooler temperatures are anticipated in certain eastern and southern regions. Isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers may occur over the central and eastern parts of the country.
