South Africa Outraged by Trumps Disinvitation from G20 Summit

Pretoria: South Africa on Thursday reacted with outrage to its disinvitation by US President Donald Trump from the Group of 20 (G20) summit in the United States next year. South Africa is a sovereign constitutional democratic country and does not appreciate insults from another country about its membership and worth in participating in global platforms, President Cyril Ramaphosas office stated. It emphasized that South Africas G20 membership is at the behest of all other members.

According to Ghana News Agency, Trump, posting on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday, accused South Africa of committing a genocide against white farmers. Therefore, at my direction, South Africa will NOT be receiving an invitation to the 2026 G20, which will be hosted in the Great City of Miami, Florida next year, Trump wrote. The US boycotted this years G20 summit, which was held in the South African city of Johannesburg last weekend.

Trump also announced that the US would immediately cancel all payments and support for South Africa. Ramaphosas office expressed that it was regrettable that President Trump continues to be vindictive and seek to apply punitive measures against South Africa, based on misinformation and distortions about our country, despite numerous attempts to reset the diplomatic relationship with the US.

The G20 comprises 19 industrial and emerging countries, along with the European Union and the African Union. Members include major Western democracies such as the US, Germany, and the United Kingdom, as well as authoritarian-led states like Russia and China.
