Deadline for Comments on Anti-Money Laundering Draft Bill Extended by National Treasury

Pretoria: The National Treasury has announced an extension for the submission of comments on the General Laws (Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing) Amendment Bill, 2025. This draft Bill, which was initially published on 14 January 2026, will now accept comments for an additional 30 days.

According to South African Government News Agency, the public is informed that the new deadline for submitting comments is 2 March 2026. This extension is formalized through Government Notice No. 7141, as published in Government Gazette No. 54172 on 19 February 2026. The draft Bill aims to enhance the nation's Anti-Money Laundering and Combating Terrorism Financing (AML/CFT) system, specifically by addressing deficiencies identified in the 2021 Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Mutual Evaluation Report for South Africa.

South Africa was initially placed on the FATF greylist in February 2023 but managed to exit this list in October 2025 following the implementation of significant reforms. These reforms were part of a remedial process targeting the country's strategies against money laundering and terrorism financing. The draft Bill is accessible on the National Treasury website, www.treasury.gov.za.

The National Treasury encourages the submission of written comments, which can be sent to [email protected] by the close of business on 2 March 2026.
