Vereeniging: Trade, Industry and Competition Deputy Minister Zuko Godlimpi and Gauteng Economic Development, Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Vuyiswa Ramokgopa are set to lead an interactive public participation session focused on the designation of the proposed Vaal Special Economic Zone (SEZ).
According to South African Government News Agency, the session is being organized by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (dtic), in collaboration with the Gauteng Provincial Government and Sedibeng District Municipality. This initiative follows the publication by Trade, Industry and Competition Minister Parks Tau in the Government Gazette, announcing his intention to designate the proposed Vaal SEZ for public comment.
The public has been granted a 30-day period to provide their feedback on the proposed development. The session scheduled in Vereeniging aims to provide local residents an opportunity to voice their opinions and share ideas regarding the SEZ with various governmental bodies at the national, provincial, and local levels.
The Vaal SEZ is planned to be spread across five land parcels in Heidelberg, Rietspruit, Langlaagte, Zwartkopjies, and Kookfontein. These locations have been strategically chosen due to their proximity to significant population centers and essential transportation infrastructure. The development of the Vaal SEZ is aligned with the goals set out in the Sedibeng District Municipality's District Development Model (DDM) and its District One Plan.
