A suspect appears in court for cash-in-transit robbery and murder

EASTERN CAPE – On 18 May 2022, Zamani Kenneth Malikwane (57) was brought before Motherwell court in Gqeberha for allegations of involvement in a cash-in-transit robbery and murder.

A cash-in-transit robbery occurred at Zonkey Spar in Motherwell on 10 January 2022. The Flying Squad responded swiftly to the where upon arrival, they found a security guard who was fatally wounded. The suspects were spotted attempting to get into a runaway car. Upon noticing the police, the suspect started shooting towards the police. The police retaliated and the two suspects split up and fled into the bushy area and managed to get away.

One suspect, Zamani Malukwane was arrested the same day and charged for illegal possession of firearm, attack on police and attempted murder. He has been remanded in custody ever since his arrest. After extensive probing on 18 May 2022, he was brought by National Priority Violent Crimes Investigation team of the Hawks in Gqeberha Motherwell court for the charge of CIT and murder. The matter was remanded to the 25 May 2022 for further investigation.
