NCC Announces Recall of Specific Hino 700 Series Trucks

Pretoria: The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has issued a recall notice for certain Hino 700 Series trucks. The announcement was made on Wednesday, highlighting safety concerns that have necessitated the recall action.

According to South African Government News Agency, the recall comes in response to a notification from Toyota South Africa Motors (Pty) Ltd. The affected models were sold nationwide through authorized Toyota dealerships between September 10, 2024, and December 10, 2024. The recall specifically targets 18 units of the Hino 700 Series.

The issue identified involves the fuel pump housing which was subjected to an inappropriate surface treatment process during production. This defect may lead to the development of cracks under repeated high load, potentially causing a fuel leak. Owners of the affected trucks are urged to visit their nearest authorized Toyota dealership to schedule an inspection and necessary repairs.

A new fuel pump will be installed in the affected vehicles, and all related inspection and repair work will be conducted free of charge to the consumer. The NCC, operating under the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, is overseeing this recall process to ensure consumer safety.

For any further questions or queries regarding the recall, consumers are advised to contact the NCC at [email protected].
