South African Police Service Launches Recruitment Drive for 5,500 Young Trainees

Pretoria:The South African Police Service (SAPS) has announced a recruitment drive aimed at enlisting 5,500 young South Africans as police trainees for the 2026/2027 financial year. The initiative targets individuals under the age of 35 who are passionate about contributing to community safety and policing.

According to South African Government News Agency, the recruitment process, which commenced on 21 October 2026, will remain open until 13 November 2026. This opportunity is aimed at disciplined and physically fit young individuals who are eager to serve their communities and help build a safer South Africa.

Eligible candidates, who must not have any criminal records or pending cases, are encouraged to apply through the official SAPS eRecruitment portal. The online application system, implemented in 2025, facilitates easy access for applicants from diverse backgrounds. Applicants must create a profile, verify their account through an email code, and follow a step-by-step guide to apply. Additionally, a QR code for direct portal access will be shared on SAPS's social media platforms.

SAPS is not only looking for recruits to fill standard posts but is also seeking candidates with specialized skills and qualifications. Graduates in various fields such as Law, Criminology, and Information Technology may be considered for roles within specialized units like the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation and Crime Intelligence. The recruitment aims to include qualified individuals from underrepresented racial groups.

The selection process for applicants is comprehensive, involving fitness tests, psychometric evaluations, medical assessments, and interviews. Candidates with relevant NQF Level 6 or higher qualifications will undergo six months of training, while others will complete a nine-month program. All trainees will receive a monthly stipend during their training period.

The SAPS emphasizes that the application process is free and warns applicants to be cautious of fraudsters demanding money for employment promises. Applications must be submitted by 13 November 2026, and interested individuals are encouraged to apply promptly.
