Polokwane: In a bid to bolster the relationship between the government and traditional leadership, Deputy President Paul Mashatile is set to engage with Traditional Leaders in Polokwane on Friday. This engagement aligns with the government's ongoing efforts to reinforce the institution of Traditional Leadership and enhance collaboration between governmental bodies and traditional communities, as announced by the Presidency.
According to South African Government News Agency, the discussions at the Limpopo gathering will center on the support provided by the government to traditional institutions and the social challenges faced by communities. Key topics will include the interplay between traditional leadership and local and provincial governments. Additionally, the meeting will address local economic development, employment opportunities, and evaluate the progress in the land reform programme.
Deputy President Mashatile is the chair of the Inter-Ministerial Task Team on Traditional Leadership, which was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa. This task team aims to tackle issues raised by traditional and Khoi-San leaders and to strengthen the cooperation between government and traditional institutions.
